digital vision board

Create your very own digital vision board easily with this guide!

A new year, season, birthday or major life event often inspires us to create five year plans or lay out our goals for the next few months. Many times, that comes in the form of a vision board, whether with physical cut outs or a digital version.

This year I opted for a digital vision board to manifest my dreams.

It took me a couple of hours to put together and was absolutely free! I’ll touch on some of the benefits below along with the steps to create your own!

Aesthetic Vision Boards

Here are a few aesthetic vision boards that you can create that will help you manifest your dreams in an aesthetic that fits your style and in way that makes sense for you. Read more below to learn how to create your own:

What is a Digital Vision Board?

A digital vision board is a visual representation of your goals and dreams with the help of images, text, icons and more.

They help you visualize your dreams, serving as a reminder of what you want and where you want to be in the next few months, year, five years, 10 years, etc.

This virtual display is created with the help of online programs such as Canva or Google Slides.

You can create also make a traditional vision board with physical paper, scissors and glue.

Benefits of A Virtual Vision Board

It’s More Sustainable

Moving your paper products to digital is beneficial for the environment. It reduces waste and clutter. It also reduces carbon dioxide emissions. According to data from the Environmental Paper Network, you can use your iPad for about 7 hours before you reach the equivalent of the emissions of 1 page of paper without recycled contents.

Currently I use a digital planner, digital habit tracker and my iNotes as my journal.

I still struggle with reading books online and love turning the physical pages, but I’m slowly getting there! 🙂

It’s Easy to Edit

I’m a perfectionist. About halfway through creating my vision board, I wanted to make changes, move pictures around and update my color palette.

What if I wanted to start over all together?

That is so much easier to do with a virtual vision board. I can easily change the colors, text, quotes and images whenever I want. I can also perfect the aesthetic, if the vision board doesn’t come out as I planned.

It is also easy to update a digital vision board later as your goals change.

It’s Free!

When creating a vision board online, you don’t have to take the time to find and purchase the perfect images, paper, glue, scissors, a board, magazines and whatever else you need to put it together. You can easily find the images online via social media or by simply doing a Google search.

You can also use free programs online to put your collage together, such as Canva and Google Slides.

What is the best vision board app?

The best vision board app is Canva!

It’s free, easy to use and has so many templates to pick from. They also have fun graphics, fonts, icons and images to help you personalize your creations.

Even though you can upgrade your Canva membership to a paid subscription, it is not necessary. You will have access to a good amount of their huge library for free, but if you want more, you can always upgrade.

Now you’re probably wondering:

What should I put on my vision board?

Your vision board should include your goals for the next few months, year, few years, five years or ten years.

Ask yourself the following questions (be as specific as possible!):

  1. Who do I want to be?
  1. What do I want to do?

  2. When do I want to achieve these goals?

  3. Where do I want to be?

  4. How do I want to feel?

  5. Who do I want around me?

Do you want to improve your wellness? Finances? Career goals? Personal relationships?

Once you figure out the answers to these questions, begin creating main topics and subtopics surrounding your goals.

Example #1: Main Topic – Wellness

Subtopics:

  • Eating healthy
  • Exercise
  • Yoga
  • Peloton
  • Running
  • Therapy
  • Journaling
  • Spirituality

Example #2: Main Topic – Finances

  • Save $10,000
  • Budgeting
  • F.I.R.E. (Financial Independence, Retire Early) Movement
  • Invest
  • $5,000 Travel Fund

Example #3: Personal

  • Romantic Love
  • Friendship Love
  • Family Love
  • Build a community
  • Focus on self-care

Example #4: Professional

  • Companies you want work with
  • Long term career plans
  • Side hustle
  • Entrepreneurship

Here is the list of main topics and subtopics I created for myself. I divided my main topics into two: Personal and Professional (I housed my financial goals under professional).

After writing down all of the main topics and subtopics you want to add to your board, you’re probably wondering:

Now how do I put this all together?

Find digital photos, words and quotes that represent each subtopic and fit your aesthetic and style.

How do I find the best images for my vision board?

Once you create this list of main topics with subtopics that are related to your goals, begin searching for pictures and text that represent these ideas.

Choose an Aesthetic

If you want to follow a certain color palette or aesthetic for your pictures, choose your colors from the beginning.

Search for Content

Use the Google and Pinterest search engines to find additional photos. If the photos that populate do not fit your style, add the word “aesthetic” to the end of your search. The vibes of the images that come up are likely to change and may match your personality more.
