The History
Created because we naturally forget to take care of ourselves, National Self Care Awareness Month was established in 2017 by Evolve to Live. The celebration was put in place to help people advocate for themselves and build a self-care habit.
Even though the western world is overall considered to be individualistic, a majority of western people come from generations and generations of immigrants. This means we likely subconsciously subscribe to the collectivist mindset, which can lead to self-care feeling unnatural or selfish.
However, self care isn’t selfish. Self-care should be part of your daily routine or at least consider self care month to be every month!
How To Celebrate National Self Care Awareness Month – 30 Ways!
I like to think of self care as a personalized recipe. For some people, taking care of yourself means having a morning routine to create a disciplined and motivated day. For others, self care is going to therapy and keeping up with their skin-care regimen.
The best self care practice is the one that makes YOU feel best. A self care practice that is unique to you.
